I love language!

As a fluent speaker of French, when I decided to become a qualified teacher of English, primarily to French speakers, I was passionate about passing my love of the language onto others. I like to pretend that my reasons were wholly altruistic, for example, ‘I wanted to enable people to improve their competence in the language so that they could get a job or a promotion, pass an exam, visit an English-speaking country, etc.  Well yes, all of those things played a part in my decision to embark on this new venture.  However, it was and continues to be my fascination with the English language which drives me to want to share it with others; its history, evolution and etymology, its quirkiness, its adaptability, its odd mixture of strict grammatical rules and flexibility.

All of this means that there are many different ways in which to express thoughts and emotions, often with the adding, subtracting or moving of only one or a few small words. I hope that you can accompany me on my journey to explore the tunnels and chambers of the labyrinth which is the English language!
